For several years, Ales Loprais has been established as the most regular opponent of the Kamaz team, even though he too is affected by the Russian drivers’ domination. However, the pillar of the Tatra team is a determined man, and his rebellion is set to continue on the routes of the Silk Way this summer.
Until now, Ales Loprais’s quest has been coming up against a hard reality, which systematically places him behind the Kamaz trucks. However, this winning Czech driver has nevertheless gained two places on the podium, in the Dakar 2007 and the Silk Way 2009. Despite a premature finish, he had the pleasure of breaking a series of 24 legs won in succession by his great rivals in the last Dakar. This small notch in the Kamaz team’s perfect itinerary convinced Loprais that he was headed in the right direction. Moreover, during the Prague leg of the Dakar World Tour, he did not hesitate to announce his ambitions. His new set up will be operational as from the month of July on the Silk Way: “We will do everything to rival the Kamaz trucks as quickly as possible. For this reason, we will be lining up two trucks on the Dakar, which will allow me to have the benefit of rapid assistance in case of problems. And we will already be competing in the Silk Way in July with this arrangement”.
