It was a year ago that Jes Munk discovered the desert while participating to his first rally in Egypt. Today, the Danish rider is back to Cairo with his own structure and the same enthusiasm.
“I long to take the start and to be guiding the bike´s handlebars in the desert. I will never forget my first start in the skirts of the Pyramids last year, it was huge! This Pharaons Rally will help Jes to test his KTM 450 in real race conditions and the structure of the team X-Rage Racing as well. “I did not do more than 100 km in Denmark with the KTM, so I am going to discover how it works in the desert. We are in “Dakar Mode” in this rally, with the new Sprinter 4×4 and Gilbert Ollivier as mechanic.
Gilbert has done many Dakars with Thierry Magnaldi, which is an advantage when it comes to the knowledge and experience with the KTM in rallys. Judith Tomaselli is the team manager, press officer and responsible for the coffee! We have three intensive weeks to take our marks and check what we can improve.
Also, ERTF let me try out their new GPS. This new machine will be available for all from the next Dakar. This makes me feel great because it will allow me to get used to it before the Dakar,” says Jes Munk.
Yesterday, the only Danish rider of the race completed scrutineerings at the Mövenpick Hotel and met again with his friends: Chaleco, Magnaldi, Stefano, who brought him some Nutella, and the others…
Today, technical checks were finished. Jes will carry number 7, his lucky number. The race will start tomorrow with the first stage of 470 km, of which 356 will be special stage, from Cairo to Tibniya.
