How have you seen the first steps? Many situations that were unaware?
Find new things every day, and more in a race like the Dakar, where there are all kinds of terrain and situations you can imagine. Getting to combine that with the maximum speed that allows a margin of safety is what you want when you go to the stage.
Physically, how are you?
I am quite well, after the fall of the third day I had some discomfort, but they have disappeared. There have been days where grades really hard to accumulate miles, but that’s where we get the training done during the year. Also the head is key at this point … you have to be aware of the feelings you have at any time and manage it during the stage.
What is one of your days in this Dakar?
The day to day is hectic. I also learned how important it is and planificarte organize things so that everything comes out good and avoid forgetfulness. The mean time to wake up is at 4 in the morning, use a little more than an hour for breakfast at the Bivouac, put on work clothes and plants in the control signal for the start of the stage.Just around the stage more of the same, the first few minutes are very important to recover. We must return to the physical everything that we wear, so a quick shower and a half hour massage and eating comes first. After 3 hours we used to study the next day’s road book, which we already planted in the 8 pm where the briefing the next day. At the end of dinner and go to bed around 9.
Tell us about your late stage 5.
When I stood on the track I thought of the value that had come to Lima, and had to do whatever it took to get there. So in the middle of nowhere I found a stick and a rock truck to hit and be able to unlock the wheel, then with the help of Pelli could tie everything to reach the final.
Yesterday’s stage may have been a great success. How did you live from the inside?
The feeling when I got to neutralization in second place were very good. But it’s something I already knew before we arrived. I knew it came with a lot of rhythm. At the rally have to control everything and that is also controlled. The way to carry that pace is too cold to have the mind and have the feeling that you have everything under control. So I knew that was going well and I struggled to remain vigilant and continue to put in the road book and nothing else.
¿Would you return to the stage yesterday ask yourself the same, or maybe you change your tactics in view of your error?
Would do the same, but with more experience. Experience is something you just have to experience it. And despite what people have said sometimes, I think only if you have a high degree of ambition and self confidence, you can reach the top.
HUSQVARNA by SPEEDBRAIN is a large structure. ¿How have you adapted?
It’s a great team, work with the new bike has been very good, and are already planning how to evolution in it more.
I always try to make time to talk to the mechanics and the manager about things on the bike and behavior on stage, we also discussed the strategy for the next day and evaluate everything.
What do you expect this second half rally?
We will continue fighting butt every day. The objectives we had set our team are available to us, so we have to continue as before.
