We were winding up to a thrilling final of both the 30th edition of the Pharaons Rally as well as the 2012 World Cup but it seems that both have been descided thanks to a routine inspection of the Sonangol Buggy. A FIA technical steward found that the restrictor was fractionally larger than allowed by the regulations. The result means that the Sonangol team leaves tomorrow with the rest of the convoy but will stay on the tarmac to Cairo.
In his usual high spirits snacking on peanuts the good man was quite philosophical. “It’s our mistake and a mistake is just a mistake and so there’s nothing to appeal about. So it’s over for us. It’s a pity but this is how it is.”
