The race driver Elisabete Jacinto obtained third place among trucks in today’s Sonangol Africa Eco Race special. With this result the Portuguese race driver moves a place up the car-truck joint classification and is now sixth, keeping the second place in her category.
The Team Oleoban/ MAN Portugal spent only 1m26s more than the Czech Tomas Tomecek’s Tatra and finished once more ahead of the Scania Hungarian team. The Kamaz Russian team is leader with 27m31s less than Elisabete Jacinto, who in her turn is 45m46s ahead of the third truck.
Elisabete Jacinto made a positive assessment of the day: “it was another excellent special. Everything went on well, and not even Erg Cheggagga caused any trouble. In fact it is on dunes that we usually lose time, but today we managed to cross the sand areas without any problem. The stage was very difficult in terms of navigation, but José Marques was very consistent and always gave me the right notes. For our team, the navigation factor was an added value, since many people got lost. Our truck is also behaving very well, and we are happy with yet another good result”, was her comment.
After celebrating the New Year, the competitors for Sonangol Africa Eco Race 2013 leave early for next stage. Tomorrow’s selective sector is mainly through fast tracks, with only some pebbles and sand trails. The special comprises 343 kilometers connecting the Moroccan towns of Oued Draa and Gwirat Larjam.
