At the end of the ninth stretch of Sonangol Africa Eco Race 2013, Elisabete Jacinto finished third in her category, immediately behind the team lead by Tomas Tomecek. From the beginning of the special Team Oleoban/MAN Portugal discussed second place with the Czech, and finished just two minutes after the Tatra team.
The Lusitanian team, which today was seventh in the general classification, ascends to sixth place in that classification (car-truck) and keeps third place in its category.
Elisabete Jacinto was enthusiastic with the results, now that that there are only two stretches to go before the end of the race: “the selective sector was very hard. We had many kilometers of dunes and many convoluted trails to surmount. However, and in spite of the hardship of this special, I think we did a good job. Everything went on alright, we didn’t have any problem and kept a good pace throughout the stretch. At the final kilometers we contended with Tomecek for second place, but the Czech truck is lighter and smaller than ours, so he managed to beat us” commented the Portuguese race driver.
Tomorrow Sonangol Africa Eco Race 2013 leaves Mauritania and gets to its final stages. From now on the race takes place in Senegal where the last specials occur. The tenth stretch of the competition includes 196 timed kilometers between the Mauritanian town of Tenadi and the Senegalese Koba
