The team Oleoban ®/MAN Portugal reached today, the second place in the truck category in the first stage of the 6th Sonangol Africa Eco Race. Elisabete Jacinto starts in a very positive way her 5th participation in the biggest African rally of nowadays. The Portuguese trio completed the today’s special, which integrated 87 kilometers, in 1h20m46s .
The team formed by Elisabete Jacinto, José Marques and Marco Cochinho is, at the end of the first stage, on the 16th position of the auto/truck general standing behind the Czech Tomas Tomecek, who was the fastest T4 at this stage and assumes, at this time, the leadership of this category. Behind Elisabete Jacinto was Noel Essers and the race winner in 2010, Miklos Kovacs .
The first stage, held between Nador and Boudnib, occurred very normally and Elisabete Jacinto was happy with this positive start: “it was a particularly beautiful stage. The conduction was also very nice and we had no major problems. There are always small adjustments we have to do, but it’s normal because in these first days we have to adapt to the rhythm of to the race. It is in the beginning that we can adjust the little details that will allow us to evolve and achieve our goals. Above all, it was good way to enter the competition” said Elisabete Jacinto .
The second stage of Africa Eco Race is fulfilled tomorrow and has a timed special of 431 kilometers. In the first round of 2014, the competitors of Sonangol Africa Eco Race start in the difficult dunes of Erg Chebbi. In this edition, and for the first time in the history of this race, the caravan will also cross the Erg Cheggaga and the Lake Iriki.
