The first day of Duna Aszfalt Cup – and also the 2016 Hungarian Cross-country Rally Championship – brought mixed feelings for HQ Racing. In the 11 km long Superspecial Zoltan Hangodi finished 5th, Gabor Juhasz, on the other hand, can complete the rest of the weekend only as forerunner.
“Today was a good warmup. The track is great, as for results, I expected something like this, but tommorrow’s long stage will be deciding. The most important is that the gap to the front is quite small” Hango said.
“The track was good, I really enjoyed the drive. Unfortunately I had some problem with the gearbox, but I am looking forward to tomorrow, the two long specials will be important for me for gaining experience” Gabor added.
Unfortunately later it turned out that the problem is more serious, both the gearbox and the clutch have to be replaced. The short service time was not enough for this, so Gabor had to make a decision if he wanted to continue in race without the chance of being able to reach the finish line, or gained much needed experince in a hundred percent car but wouldn’t be classified. He opted for the latter one, so the Mosquito will be forerunner.
On Saturday, the second day of Duna Aszfalt Cup, two 109 km long specials are scheduled. On Sunday there will be another 109 kilometres against the clock, on the same track but in the other direction.
