Next event for Ultimate Dakar is HunGarian Baja, held in Veszprém on 13-16 August. The race has double importance for Tomas Ourednicek and Pavel Vaculik since it counts towards both the Hungarian Championship and the World Cup.
The HunGarian Baja is a special race for the crew of Ultimate Dakar. Beside Tomas Ourednicek being very successful in most traditional Hungarian cross-country rally event as co-driver, for him and Pavel Vaculik this race marked the first ever attempt at the World Cup – and finishing in 11th place can be considered a huge success for a rookie crew. This year the stakes are higher: HunGarian Baja is also the fifth and penultimate round of the Hungarian Championship in which Ultimate Dakar occupies the third position at the moment. Since the Veszprém weekend counts towards the series with coefficient 3, success would bring important points while any mistake can quickly put an end to the dreams about the overall podium.
“We are looking forward to HunGarian Baja, because last year this was our first ever World Cup event and we competed quite well, just missing out on the points. It’s a pity that Pápa doesn’t host the race any more because I love the town, but Veszprém is also nice and the tracks nearby are really great. After Baja Aragon we hope to achieve a good result here, too, especially because this race is crucial for the Hungarian Championship. Overall, I think we have more reasons to be optimistic than not” Tomas Ourednicek says.
HunGarian Baja starts Friday afternoon with a very short Superspecial in the famous autocross track of Nyirad, host of the fifth round of FIA Autocross European Championship the same weekend. The seventh round of FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies and fifth round of the Hungarian Championship continues on Saturday with two times 175 km against the clock and ends on Sunday with one more special on the same track but in the opposite direction.
